Elisha Cuthbert "Sloppy Seconds" Remark Costs Ex Six Games
What to do if you're a well known hockey player and your famous, incredibly beautiful ex-girlfriend begins dating a player from an opposing team? If you're Dallas Stars' left winger Sean Avery, and your ex is "24" star Elisha Cuthbert, you do this
week were certainly unoriginal , communicating the sentiment of a bruised ego through a tired phrase , the penalties since befalling the 28 year-old athlete seem disproportionate indeed. Announced Friday by the NHL, Avery will be suspended for six games as well as being forced to enroll in "structured counseling," that will include anger management classes. The decision was handed down despite a formal apology made by Avery on Thursday. "I would like to sincerely apologize for my off-color remarks to the press yesterday from Calgary," Avery told the Sporting News, (leaving out any apology to Cuthbert or her new boyfriend, Calgary Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf). Defending the honor of bed-hopping female hockey fans across North America Friday, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement, "Mr. Avery has expressed remorse for his recent comments and has sought a professional anger management evaluation. I will require that he follow through with that process as a condition of his returning to the ice and that he complies with any and all recommendations." So...wait a second, does that mean Phaneuf isn't going out with Avery's sloppy seconds? Is there no statute in the NHL law-book , buried somewhere between using hockey sticks as weapons and drinking beer in the penalty box , that forbids players from dating the ex-girlfriends of other players? This is the same game the employs "checking" and tends to look the other way when players begin beating each-other senseless, isn't it? In any case, Avery will return to the ice on December 16th, in a home-game against the Phoenix Coyotes
